Management of delirium within intraoperative settings for older adults with hip fracture: a scoping review

Background Delirium is a common adverse event in older patients undergoing hip fracture repair surgery. The impact of hospital-acquired delirium during intraoperative phase their treatment can have significant on post-operative outcomes. While non-pharmacological, multicomponent prevention interventions are considered standard practice acute medical units, management the setting less clear. Objectives aim was to identify evidence-based which are, and could be, undertaken within for Design A scoping review following principles developed by Arksey O’Malley (2005). Data Sources Seven databases including Cochrane, CINAHL, Embase, MEDLINE, PsychINFO, PubMed SCOPUS were systematically searched. search limited last 11 years (2009–2020). Research studies included both primary secondary sources evidence. Results total 2464 articles initially identified. These further refined using keyword searches exclusion criteria, with final set 16 meeting inclusion criteria. Three main themes as follows: anaesthetic-related used prevent delirium; recognising non-modifiable potentially modifiable risk factors; screening diagnosis delirium.
